The American Dream
There are both good and bad things about the American Dream. Throughout the years people have come across many obstacles to achieve THEIR American Dream.  In Eric Schlossers Fast Food Nation we read about how Ray Kroc and Walt Disney work hard to achieve “their” American Dream.  Both Ray Kroc and Walt Disney dropped out of high school; however, this did not stop them. Both Kroc and Disney marketed towards children which led to their achievement of their American Dream.
To me the American Dream is a belief in freedom that allows us to achieve our goals in life through hard work.  Although many people say education is extremely important in achieving the American Dream, I have to disagree. I personally believe if you try to achieve your goal in life with ambition everything is possible. I think education is an extra that can help you, but it is not necessary. I also believe not everybody has the same chance in achieving the American Dream. As we read in Fast Food Nation, both Ray Kroc and Walt Disney dropped out of high school and achieved their own American dream. They were both smart on how they went about achieving their goals by marketing towards children.

I believe having support in achieving the American dream can be a big part of a person’s success. Family support can be helpful in so many ways. Ray Kroc had a great amount of family support. Once he moved to Anaheim, California and met his wife he was able to achieve many goals. Due to the support of his wife he was able to open two hot dog stands and make more money which allowed him to achieve his American Dream. Family support in general gives a person hope and ambition towards achieving their goals. In this case Ray Kroc’s wife support affected his rise toward success in a very positive way. I believe family support is not only important but it can be necessary for success.
To me the “American Dream” is an ideal of a successful and happy lifestyle. Although not everyone achieves the American dream we do all have equal opportunities.  I believe that because everyone has their own American Dream, the actual American Dream does not necessarily have to be the perfect family with traditional values and new modern things that make life easier. The term “The American Dream” term is defined in many ways. To me it is essentially an idea that suggests that anyone in the world can succeed through hard work, also that everyone has the potential to be happy and achieve their own American dream just how Ray Kroc and Walt Disney did.

The Meaning of Food in my Life

                                        Traditional Meals

Meals are very important in my family. Puerto Ricans have many traditional meals. Two main meals in my home are "Arroz con Guandules y Pernil " (Rice with Chick Peas  and Pig) and "Sancocho" which is a type of soup we make. Both these meals are usually made on special occasions such as Christmas and New Years. These meals have been around for many years and it is also one of my personal favorites.

         Is Americas Food Supply Safe?

According to Dr. David Acheson, Assistant commissioner for Food Protection Food and Drug Administration, “Americans have one of the safest food supplies in the world”. This passage states how hard the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) works to make sure that America’s food is safe and prevented from any unsafe distribution of food.

In this passage the author’s most important idea is to ensure American’s that the FDA is more than dedicated to inspect our food supply so that it is the safest food no matter where it comes from. This passage talks about how the FDA works hard every day to ensure that Americas food is edible and that it prevents the consumer from getting sick.

One idea in this passage that I feel is especially significant is that we have six hundred and twenty-five investigators working out of twenty different offices all across the country who are dedicated to inspecting our food.  I find this idea extremely significant because considering that this is very important, we have proof that these investigators do inspect our food to see how well, how clean and healthy the food is. The proof we have is the sanitary inspection letter grade that we see once we walk into any fast food restaurant. This ensures us of how clean and edible the food supply we will purchase from that place is. Depending on the letter grade we as costumers have the option to stay or simply walk out.

In conclusion, this passage gives us the simple understanding of how and why the FDA works so hard.  The FDA works to protect food from bacterial, viral and chemical contamination. This prevents the consumers of the product from getting a stomach disease. This passage “Is America’s Food Supply Safe”?    Enlightens us with us with great information about how Americans have one of the safest food supplies in the world.
