Midterm essay !

Topic B:  The Fast Food Industry and Children
The fast food industry has always been known to target children in its advertising. Many years ago, many American companies directed their marketing at children because it was known that children often recognized a brand logo before they can recognize their own name. I believe that fast food franchises should not target children in their own advertising because of the struggle to protect children’s health.
I believe that fast food franchises target children in their advertising.  Although they do this it is wrong, due to the fact that every day we look for ways of trying to make the world a healthier place. Fast food franchises should not target children because by doing so the put many young children’s lives at risk. When fast food franchises target children they do not see that it may lead to a child being overweight. For example, Mc. Donald’s targets children by selling toys in their happy meals, selling cheap food (which is great for the parents’ pockets), and by marketing their indoor and outdoor playgrounds.  Many parents believe that by taking their children out to eat at Mc. Donald’s they are doing them a favor. However, they do not see that it is extremely unhealthy for their children. Although Mc. Donald’s has playground, their foods’ carry so many calories that it is almost impossible for a child to burn in one day.  Fast food franchises do not see that by marketing towards children they put their lives at risk.
Our government fights every day to remove unhealthy food from the markets. However, they should try harder on making sure fast food franchises do not target children to protect their health. As years go by we constantly see overweight children which is not only sad but dangerous. Bullying has become one of the biggest problems throughout the years. I believe that by cutting targeting on children there will be less bullying. Everyday children are being bullied in school mainly because of their weight. I know this because I was one of them. If fast food franchises stop targeting children, children will eat out less and enjoy a home cooked meal much more often.
Many parents feel as if by taking their children out to eat they will be able to spend more time with them. What they don’t seem to see is that by doing so they give in to fast food franchises advertisings. If parent stopped giving in to these advertisements children will be more interested in eating a good home cooked meal. They will also be more likely to wanting to learn to make one. By doing so, children will be in more healthy conditions. By teaching children how bad fast food is they will be more likely to restrain from eating these foods. Fast food franchises should stop targeting children because not only does it affect their health, it affects the health of the entire family as well.
Fast food franchises should not target children in their advertising. By doing so they put many children’s lives at risk. Many people do not know that fast foods may cause diseases, especially diabetes. Fast food franchises should not target children mainly because they are putting young innocent lives in danger. This is not only wrong but sad to have to see many young children overweight, being bullied, or with diabetes. I believe these are the main reasons why fast food franchises should not target children in its advertisings.
