Educating
children on the importance of a balanced diet is extremely important because a
healthy child grows up to be a healthy adult. Many parents never teach their
children on how to balance certain foods for certain days or special occasions.
Although school districts are contracting to bring fast food into the school
cafeteria parents have the option of packing their child a healthy lunch.
Parents should learn how to encourage good eating habits upon their children
and discourage unhealthy eating habits, such as eating out at fast food
restaurants. Parents should also
subscribe their children in physical activities after school.
Parents
should bear the weight of teaching their children on how to balance a healthy
diet. Instead of grouping food as good or bad they should teach their children
to save certain foods for certain days or special occasions. For example, desserts
such as cheese cake should be only eaten on holidays such as birthdays, Christmas
and New Year’s, and fruits and vegetables are to be eaten on a day to day
regular basis.
Although school districts are
contracting to bring fast food into the school cafeteria parents have the
option of packing their child a healthy lunch. A healthy lunch for a child
should consist of half a plate of vegetables and the other half should consists
of whole grains, meats, and proteins. Once children are taught to eat these
types of food they will accommodate to them and learn that a colorful plate is
a healthy one.
Parents should encourage good eating
habits upon their children and discourage unhealthy eating habits, such as
eating out at fast food restaurants. Cooking
with children gives the opportunity to talk to your child about different types
of foods and how healthy each food is. Cooking with children doesn’t only teach
them how healthy food is but it also expands different opportunities to try
different types of foods as long as they are healthy. As long as this is done the child with grow up
to always eat healthy foods and will teach future generations how his healthy
eating habits helped him/her grow up in a healthy environment.
Overall, parents should also
subscribe their child in physical activities after school. There are many types
of physical activities children can join such as a soccer team, basketball
team, or even track teams. These
activities help maintain the child in a healthy weight. This also helps the
child maintain a healthy social life, which may help encourage the child to
tell his/her peers about their healthy eating habits.
I believe that parents should definitely
bear the weight of all these decisions because they are the main care givers to
these children. Many children mainly look up to their parents as role models. It
has always been said “you are what you eat” and it is true. Depending on what a
child eats is how he/she will feel, look, and act. It is always good to teach a
child about healthy eating habits during their early childhood. Many studies
throughout the years have shown that depending on what a child eats as a child
is mainly how that child carries out eating habits all the way to adult hood. This is also how generations after generations
learn to eat unhealthy foods on a daily basis. Many parents do not see that by letting
g their child eat anything they want doesn’t only affect the child but hundreds
of generations to come. These are some of the many reasons why parents should
focus healthy eating habits upon their children .
