Library media recourses center: I've searched articles that have to do with food safety and ways to keep your food health...
Example- Instead of frying chicken, you can steam it with vegetables (less calories). This prevents high cholesterol.
Partnership for Food Safety Education- This is an action pledge people take to avoid food diseases such as mad cow disease, or food borne diseases.

Midterm essay !
Topic
B: The Fast Food
Industry and Children
The fast
food industry has always been known to target children in its advertising. Many
years ago, many American companies directed their marketing at children because
it was known that children often recognized a brand logo before they can
recognize their own name. I believe that fast food franchises should not target
children in their own advertising because of the struggle to protect children’s
health.
I
believe that fast food franchises target children in their advertising. Although they do this it is wrong, due to the
fact that every day we look for ways of trying to make the world a healthier
place. Fast food franchises should not target children because by doing so the
put many young children’s lives at risk. When fast food franchises target
children they do not see that it may lead to a child being overweight. For
example, Mc. Donald’s targets children by selling toys in their happy meals,
selling cheap food (which is great for the parents’ pockets), and by marketing
their indoor and outdoor playgrounds. Many
parents believe that by taking their children out to eat at Mc. Donald’s they
are doing them a favor. However, they do not see that it is extremely unhealthy
for their children. Although Mc. Donald’s has playground, their foods’ carry so
many calories that it is almost impossible for a child to burn in one day. Fast food franchises do not see that by
marketing towards children they put their lives at risk.
Our
government fights every day to remove unhealthy food from the markets. However,
they should try harder on making sure fast food franchises do not target
children to protect their health. As years go by we constantly see overweight
children which is not only sad but dangerous. Bullying has become one of the
biggest problems throughout the years. I believe that by cutting targeting on
children there will be less bullying. Everyday children are being bullied in
school mainly because of their weight. I know this because I was one of them.
If fast food franchises stop targeting children, children will eat out less and
enjoy a home cooked meal much more often.
Many
parents feel as if by taking their children out to eat they will be able to
spend more time with them. What they don’t seem to see is that by doing so they
give in to fast food franchises advertisings. If parent stopped giving in to
these advertisements children will be more interested in eating a good home
cooked meal. They will also be more likely to wanting to learn to make one. By
doing so, children will be in more healthy conditions. By teaching children how
bad fast food is they will be more likely to restrain from eating these foods.
Fast food franchises should stop targeting children because not only does it
affect their health, it affects the health of the entire family as well.
Fast
food franchises should not target children in their advertising. By doing so
they put many children’s lives at risk. Many people do not know that fast foods
may cause diseases, especially diabetes. Fast food franchises should not target
children mainly because they are putting young innocent lives in danger. This
is not only wrong but sad to have to see many young children overweight, being
bullied, or with diabetes. I believe these are the main reasons why fast food
franchises should not target children in its advertisings.

The
American Dream
There are both good and bad things about the
American Dream. Throughout the years people have come across many obstacles to
achieve THEIR American Dream. In
Eric Schlosser’s
Fast Food Nation we read about how Ray Kroc and Walt Disney work hard to
achieve “their” American Dream. Both
Ray Kroc and Walt Disney dropped out of high school; however, this did not stop
them. Both Kroc and Disney marketed towards children which led to their
achievement of their American Dream.
To me the American Dream is a belief in freedom
that allows us to achieve our goals in life through hard work. Although many people say education is
extremely important in achieving the American Dream, I have to disagree. I personally
believe if you try to achieve your goal in life with ambition everything is
possible. I think education is an extra that can help you, but it is not
necessary. I also believe not everybody has the same chance in achieving the
American Dream. As we read in Fast Food Nation, both Ray Kroc and Walt
Disney dropped out of high school and achieved their own American dream. They
were both smart on how they went about achieving their goals by marketing
towards children.
I believe
having support in achieving the American dream can be a big part of a person’s success.
Family support can be helpful in so many ways. Ray Kroc had a great amount of
family support. Once he moved to Anaheim, California and met his wife he was
able to achieve many goals. Due to the support of his wife he was able to open
two hot dog stands and make more money which allowed him to achieve his
American Dream. Family support in general gives a person hope and ambition
towards achieving their goals. In this case Ray Kroc’s wife support affected
his rise toward success in a very positive way. I believe family support is not
only important but it can be necessary for success.
To me the “American Dream” is an
ideal of a successful and happy lifestyle. Although not everyone achieves the American
dream we do all have equal opportunities. I believe that because everyone has their own
American Dream, the actual American Dream does not necessarily have to be the
perfect family with traditional values and new modern things that make life
easier. The term “The American Dream” term is defined in many ways. To me it is
essentially an idea that suggests that anyone in the world can succeed through
hard work, also that everyone has the potential to be happy and achieve their own American
dream just how Ray Kroc and Walt Disney did.

The Meaning of Food in my Life
Traditional Meals
Meals are very
important in my family. Puerto Ricans have
many traditional meals. Two main meals in my home are "Arroz con Guandules y Pernil " (Rice with Chick Peas and Pig) and "Sancocho" which is a type of soup we make. Both these meals are usually made on special occasions such as Christmas and New Years. These meals have been around for many years and it is also one of my personal favorites.
